Odyssey South Bus Day 6 Update

Day Six

Having spent most of the trip so far in historical sites and fearing that time was tight, we cancelled or visit to Alberta village and mill so that we could spend more time hiking the beautiful River Trail of Tahquamenon Falls. Students were strong, perseverant, and supportive of one another as we climbed up and down stairs, cautiously circumnavigated muddy puddles, and searched (successfully!) for missing eyeglasses in the tall grass.

We then had a long workday on the bus in transit west across the U.P. to Baraga State Park and dug into a spaghetti and meatballs dinner. A special highlight was to welcome GRS alumna Ellen Aiken, currently a sophomore at Michigan Tech, to our campfire meeting where she shared memories of her own Odysseys past, stories about college life, and answers to curious students' questions.

No more updates until Thursday's drive home: the cell connectivity in the Porcupine Mountains is virtually nonexistent.
