Biking on Hamline Ave: Join the Conversation

The Transportation Committee for the Hamline Midway neighborhood has been investigating whether any students, teachers, or families from Great River bike on Hamline Avenue to the bike bridge across the railroad tracks. The City of St. Paul will be redoing the asphalt on Hamline soon and will add bike lane striping from University Avenue to Minnehaha Ave. The City is currently NOT intending to add a bike lane from Minnehaha to Pierce Butler (by the bike bridge) because the road narrows north of Minnehaha. The Hamline-Midway Transportation Committee is considering asking the City to add a bike lane on Hamline north of Minnehaha too, especially if people from Great River would benefit from it.

So far in an informal survey of 262 GRS students during advisory this week, we discovered that 61 of those GRS students and faculty members bike on Hamline Ave. north of Minnehaha to get to/from school on a regular basis.

Join the Hamline Midway Coalition on Wednesday, April 27, 7:00 p.m., at Galtier Community School, 1317 Charles Ave. to join the conversation about biking on Hamline Avenue. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Kyle Mianulli at kyle@hamlinemidway.org or 651-494-7683. More details on this project can be found here:http://www.hamlinemidway.org/hamlineave

An online survey is coming soon. Watch for it to be shared with GRS families!
