GRS A2 and A3 students just finished welcoming a student from Paris, Clémence, for three weeks while she stayed with a GRS family to practice English and learn through cultural exchange.
Her host family and GRS students had a GREAT time getting to know her and reflecting on culture together. It's so interesting to discuss American politics right now with someone from another country, and it's fun to take a vacation in your own city when you host guests from abroad.
The group that organizes this cultural exchange, Language and Friendship, is recruiting families to host students from France or Spain for a month this summer. Please consider welcoming a new member to your family and passing this opportunity along to others who might be interested. It's so fun and you'll learn about the world and yourself, plus your students can practice their language skills in Spanish or French!
GROUP DATES & DETAILS:
June 9 - July 9, 2016 & June 20 - July 20, 2016 - from Lycée Saint Marc, France
Students come from a school near Lyon, France. They are French-speaking and range in age from 14-16 years old. They are part of a special program that concentrates on English (several of their classes are taught in English!) and the end of their “sophomore” year culminates with this Family Stay experience. This group will arrive/depart together in Minneapolis/St Paul, but they will be spread out in the area to provide maximum immersion. There are no group activities and students look forward to experiencing the daily life of their hosts. Group ID: AG12462 (June 9 - July 9) or AG13086 (June 20 - July 20)
June 24 - July 20, 2016 - from Bilbao, Spain
Students come from the Basque area of northern Spain and they range in age from 12-17 years old (they will speak Castillian Spanish and, most likely, Basque). They spend their first night as a group for orientation and meet host families on their 2nd day. Group arrives and departs MSP but can be placed anywhere within driving distance. They look forward to becoming part of their American families and learning more about their lives, language and culture. Group ID: AG12474
July 10 - July 30, 2016 - from Castellón, Spain
This group comes from our family-stay coordinators in the Castellón area of Spain (eastern coast). They have found many wonderful families for our American students and they are looking forward to introducing their own students to the American way of life by offering them this opportunity to live as part of an American family for a short time. Student ages range from 13-17 years old. Group ID: AG12475
