Technovation Challenge - Girls 7th-12th

Attention parents of girls! Former A2 teacher, Kate Indrelie wants to continue coaching teams for the Technovation Challenge (GRS has had teams for the past 2 years) this winter/spring. Join her team/s!
What it is: Technovation is an international competition wherein teams create a mobile app that addresses a community issue. Teams learn to program the app (using an easy-to-learn tool called App Inventor) and create a business pitch that demonstrates the app’s potential.

Who: Girls only - grades 7-12 (the program is meant to combat the profound gender imbalance within technology fields). If there is enough interest we will have middle school and high school teams.
When: Ideally Wednesdays 3:30 – 5:00, but we could be flexible. The season runs from mid-late January through mid April, and ends with a pitch competition where teams present their apps to a panel of judges. Apps and pitches worldwide are sent to California where they are judged and 10 finalists are selected to travel to San Francisco to pitch their app before actual investors.
Why: Check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKmOs2OeDlA. Also you get to hang out with Kate and do cool and important stuff with technology.
INTERESTED STUDENTS: Please email Kate at kate.indrelie@ties.k12.mn.us AND plan on attending a brief info meeting on Wednesday, January 13 from 3:30 – 4:00 at Great River School.
