A1 Logistics for First Day and Odyssey Orientation Information

On the first day of school, A1 students will arrive and be welcomed outside by a Head of School or our Dean of students. Inside, the student find posted signs directing A1 students to find their advisory assignments and rooms. The advisor is the morning anchor and the conduit for social/emotional support. The advisory is akin to a "homeroom", and also includes the group of students who will travel together on the Odyssey.

In advisory, the student will learn their locker assignments. In first day advisory, lockers are assigned. Locks on lockers are optional, and students provide their own locks. Locks are truly optional, less than 10% of students tend to bring locks for their lockers, though leaving valuables at home is encouraged, and lockers are the holding place for backpacks, coats, and notebooks.

The first two days of A1 programming is focused on setting clear expectations for community respect and our social contract, as well as Odyssey preparation. The second day is focused on logistics of camp setup, tents, gear check, and materials. Students return after the Odyssey, and spend a day caring for post-trip materials from the trip onsite at school.

A block schedule for students - this is going to be covered in detail during the Academic Orientation on September 29th from 6pm-7pm. This is a different schedule from last year for A1, and focuses on giving students extended time for a Montessori work period, and reduce the number of social transitions between classes for our junior high community.

A sample of the schedule is here as a picture. Student is Group A would have humanities Mon-Tues-Wed, and Field Studies Wed-Thu-Fri.

If you didn't make it to the A1 orientation, follow this links below for information provided at the orientation held September 1.
See you all Tuesday, September 8!
