Great River Students will have the opportunity to create masks and props bringing Shingebiss to life for the Phalen Freeze Fest! Ninth and tenth graders will be making masks of hibernating animals while elementary students will be making props bringing wind, water, and fire to life. A3 students will also create luminaries to light the way for their CAS project.
At the Phalen Freeze Fest on February 7 children of all ages will walk through the narrated story bringing it to life using the puppets and masks. Following the story there will be hot drinks, ice fishing, and crafts. All are invited to help create Shingebiss, the merganzer, at Hancock Rec Center or the Wintermaker at Duluth and Case Rec Center (see below for details). Be sure to join us for Phalen Freeze Fest and bring out the best of winter on February 7th!

Puppet Making Workshops
Drop in during any workshop or join us over several weeks to create parade style puppets to tell the Ojibwe legend of Shingebiss, the little merganser duck who refuses to be defeated by the Winter Maker. The puppets will be used to dramatize the story at Phalen Freeze Fest on Saturday, February 7.
